The rolling mill will be the featured piece of equipment in this 2-day weekend workshop. Students will focus on using the rolling mill while learning to add texture onto various pieces of sheet metal which will then be used in the fabrication of bracelets, rings, and earrings.

In this 2-day weekend course, students will learn the basics for casting metal via a quick and effective casting method - carving a negative space into a soft material know as cuttlefish bone and then pouring molten metal directly into the cavity, creating a unique grain-like textured surface that transfers onto the metal during the casting process.

With the natural world as inspiration, we will create enameled dimensional forms in copper based on botanical elements such as leaves, petals, pods and flowers. Forming, texturing, folding, dapping, and enameling on a 3-dimensional form will all be covered, in addition to setting techniques for these volumetric forms.

In this 3-day workshop, students will be guided through the basics of hand engraving. Processes such as tool sharpening, image making/mark development, design transferring, and general surface finishing applications will be covered using traditional engraving tools and techniques. Both gestural mark-making and precision drawing will be covered and can be incredibly useful methodologies for the engraving process.
