Applying the right finish to a piece of jewelry is one of the most important aspects of creating successful work. There are countless ways to finish jewelry, from the flawless mirror finish seen in commercial jewelry, to the matte brushed finish popular with many art jewelers. In this workshop, students will learn industry level tips, tricks, and techniques, while producing several of these finishes on numerous ring blanks. Students are also encouraged to bring in personal work to get feedback and suggestions on how to finish it.

During this one-day course, participants will be turning a found beach treasure into beautiful pieces of jewelry. Students will learn how to cut, drill and carve into their glass or stone, while adding silver accents to make a pendant.

Micro pulse arc welding is widely known to be a useful tool to increase efficiency with basic bench tasks such as ring sizing, connections near heat-sensitive stones, and repairing porous castings. It works well on gold, silver, stainless steel, titanium, platinum, and copper, whether connecting tiny jewelry components or larger elements for small metal sculptures. Dates and times are flexible and can be adjusted directly with the instructor after registration has been completed.

Learn the art of photo-etching and other resist-style etching methods for brass, copper, and silver!  Students will learn how to transfer and add images to metal and then how to use both an acid bath and an electrolytic setup to etch the metal, leaving behind a desired image or pattern.

In this 1-day workshop, students will learn how to make forged earrings with a cold connection element, “trapping” an object in the middle. Trapped elements can include rocks, beads, anything that has a hole or objects that can be drilled. Students will learn how to forge, add texture, bend, drill, and solder to create one of a kind, dangle earrings!
