Open Studio is offered to students and local artists who would like access to our fully equipped classroom. It is a perfect time to finish up projects and use our specialized equipment including rolling mills, torches, hydraulic press, enameling supplies, etc.
Requirements
- Monitored Open Studios is open to active Metalwerx members of all levels who feel comfortable working on projects independently. Students can use equipment and tools that have been demonstrated to them in a class. An Open Studio monitor is onsite and available to show students where tools are kept and answer questions about processes that students have already learned. If students are interested in learning a new tool or process, please let us know and we can help set up a private lesson!
- Students need to have completed at least one metalsmithing class at Metalwerx, or comparable institution,* prior to their first Open Studio session. *Please contact us with the institution's/school's name, class you attended, name of the instructor, and images of any completed works prior to registering for your first Open Studio session.
Cost
- Open Studio is registerable on a per session basis, each session is 3 hours long, and costs $30. Students may register for as many sessions as they like within a given term. Because unused sessions cannot be credited, we recommend signing up for only the amount of sessions you know you will attend.
- Participants must be an active Metalwerx Member to participate in Open Studio sessions. Membership fees support studio maintenance costs and include use of tools, equipment, gas, solder, and other soldering consumables.
Advanced Registration and Availability
- Advance registration is required. As with all of our offerings, payment is required at the point of registration, and sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Open studio is limited to eight students at a time.
