Weekly classes provide students with the fundamental skills needed to enter and explore the field of jewelry making and metalworking. Classes run from three to ten weeks.

    Structured as an "open studio" concept for enameling, this weekly workshop's technical demonstrations will respond to participants' interests and needs; from transparent enamels, wet packing, painting overglazes & underglazes to liquid enamels, decal & imagery transfers, and various other enamel techniques like champleve and plique-a-jour.

    Students who have completed Jewelry 2 and wish to engage in a challenging technical project may look no further than the aptly named Jewelry 3. Dive into design and conceptual considerations, make findings, alter/refine metal stock, and use the language of embellishment to design and create something where every element has been considered and serves the piece in a visual or conceptual way.

    This class will cover a broad array of new applications for stone setting, ranging from taking thick-wall bezels and modifying them by filing, drilling, and texturing to using sheet metal or wire to create cones that can be shaped into unconventional, free-form prong settings for irregular or odd-shaped stones. This course will also cover explanations of custom tools, modification of existing tools, and learning to use your flex shaft to make the most of it’s capabilities.

    Lost wax casting techniques have been used by jewelers for thousands of years to create volumetric metal forms through wax working. In this class students will learn how to carve and shape wax, cast the wax, and then clean up and finish the metal castings. Students can expect to walk away with several pieces of cast jewelry or small-scale metal objects.

    One of the most important things a student should do after learning basic metalsmithing skills is to practice them as much as possible, and you will get the opportunity to do just that in Jewelry 2. Students will elaborate on those basic techniques and use them as a stepping stone to create more complicated pieces and designs. Topics covered will include intermediate to advanced soldering techniques, piercing and filing skills, creating settings for stones or other objects, fabricating hollow forms and/or boxes, scoring, and of course, finishing. The instructor will also demonstrate tricks and shortcuts she's learned over many years of experience and hard work.

    If you love jewelry and have always wanted to try to make a piece you can wear, this class will introduce the fundamental metalsmithing skills you need to let your creativity flow! Learn about the tools, solidify ideas through models and drawings, and get your hands dirty with basic techniques. Students will learn to saw and pierce, file, make cold connections such as rivets, basic soldering, and finishing. Basic stone setting will also be introduced. We will focus on making samples as well as finished pieces such as pendants and rings.

    This course is designed for people who want to continue learning new and more advanced techniques to add to their repertoire. Some of the techniques students can expect learn through new projects are advanced soldering techniques, scoring (for perfect angles, bends, and corners) , fabricating hollow forms, stone setting, and more! Students are welcome to bring their own ideas for what they might want to cover in class as well as unfinished work so they can have support and guidance completing past projects.
