Weekly Classes

Weekly classes provide students with the fundamental skills needed to enter and explore the field of jewelry making and metalworking. Classes run from three to ten weeks.

  • Weekly Class (8 weeks)

    Create alluring surfaces and structures using woven metal techniques. This hands-on weekly class will introduce students to twining, braiding, weaving, knitting, and soumak weaving.

    Forging is an ancient art of controlled hammering to change the shape of wire or thick sheet metal into certain shapes and patterns. Students will learn to transform wire into sculptural forms that can be used for jewelry, sculpture or holloware.

    Pattern welded steel, otherwise known as Damascus steel, is typically used to make all manner of beautifully crafted sharp implements. In this workshop, we will take cut-off sheets of Damascus steel and create stunning cabochons.

    This wax working course will focus on introductory techniques used in creating wax models for jewelry and small metal ornamental pieces. Learn how to carve and sculpt a custom design, apply surface textures, and incorporate organic/natural elements to create a unique piece of jewelry. Student will being the class with carving and casting a ring (or two) in metal, then learning to sand and polish their work. Discover all the possibilities what you can create through wax carving and casting!

    This introductory course will focus on the design process and basic fabrication techniques of jewelry making and metalsmithing. In this class, students will begin with a sample project to practice design, layout and construction of a small decorative metal piece.  This will serve as a guide to practice using basic tools and techniques for sawing, soldering, texturing and polishing. Using these skills students will design and construct a custom pendant, ring and/or earrings. Additional demonstrations including bezel setting and riveting will be included during this course.

    Take your jewelry skills to the next level! In Jewelry 2 you will perfect the skills you learned in Jewelry 1, and discover new techniques. Students can expect to make 3 main projects: tube set faceted earrings/ ring, an etching project, and make a hollow form such as a box with a lid/ or a hollow form ring.
