Part of our mission at Metalwerx is to make jewelry and metalsmithing classes available to a wide range of new, emerging, and aspiring artists and metalsmiths. The Metalwerx course scholarship program provides opportunities for students to attend classes and workshops at very reduced cost.
How it works:
Scholarship courses will be selected at least one month in advance of the class, and a limited number of spots in each class will be reserved for recipients. Applicants are welcome to apply as soon as the spot is listed. The applicant will be chosen two weeks prior to the course and notified by email.
You are welcome to apply for more than one course scholarship throughout the year, but preference will be given to applicants who have not received a scholarship in that year. You must submit a new scholarship application for each course.
How much is covered:
Course Scholarships cover 75% of the cost of that course’s tuition. Recipients are responsible for the remaining 25% of tuition and any associated materials fees. Scholarships can only be applied to specific courses, as noted on this page.
Fee Waiver Exemption:
If the 25% of tuition cost poses a financial hardship, please indicate this in your application or send us a separate email indicating this to [email protected]. Metalwerx may be able to waive the fee for certain classes, depending on the scholarship budget for the year.
Applicant Criteria:
Applicants must meet at least one of these criteria:
- Any BIPOC artist or aspiring artist.
- Current students in a full-time degree program.
- Students who have graduated from a degree program within the last 7 years.
- Full-time jewelers who have started their jewelry-related business within the last 5 years.
- High school students with relevant experience.
- Residents of Waltham.
Application Deadline:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications for classes with scholarships available will be reviewed two weeks before the class starts, and the scholarship will be awarded then. Scholarships will be prioritized for those who have not received one that year, but applicants are still welcome to apply to multiple classes.
