Viking Knit Chains

This course is currently full. Spaces do occasionally open up so if you would like to be put on the wait list please call our office at 781-891-3854 or email [email protected]

In this one-day workshop, learn to make the Viking Knit chain, an ancient chain design that is completely knit by hand. The technique produces a tubular chain that is supple, lightweight, and beautiful to wear. Variations on the basic Viking chain stitch, using a knitting spool or crotchet hook, adding seed beads, as well as bi-color, tri-color, and other color combinations will also be demonstrated.

After completing the chain, students will pull them through a wooden drawplate to even them out, make them thinner, while adding length. Round out the day exploring chain terminations. Numerous tips for endings, clasps, and jump rings will be offered.
