Tool Time with Tim: How to Make and Use Chasing Tools

This master workshop is designed to give students an in-depth basic knowledge of how to make chasing & repoussé tools, in addition to how to use them properly. Spend a week with Tim Lazure creating your very own set of chasing tools, including liners, embossers, matting tools, planishers, stippling tools, and raised beading tools. You will learn about these common tool profiles (their shape and purpose) and how to harden and temper tool steel properly. Tim will make the learning process easy utilizing close-up video live feed, oversized step by step samples, and hands-on assistance.

As the class progresses, students will learn to use these tools to work on an intricate chasing and repoussé sample piece. This project is designed to walk you through how each tool can be used in a primarily European style chasing and repoussé approach.

This class is included in the Metalwerx Course Scholarship Program. Scholarship applications for this class are now closed.

There is an additional materials kit fee payable directly to Tim Lazure in class, which is estimated to be $30-$40, depending on how many chasing tools you are able to make.

Pitch in a chasing bowl will be needed for the second part of this workshop. Metalwerx has a limited number of studio pitch bowls with red pitch available for use. Please call us at 781-891-3854 to reserve a pitch bowl to use during the workshop. If you have a pitch bowl filled with pitch, we ask you bring it with you to class, if possible! Black / tar pitch is not allowed in the Metalwerx studio, due to its toxicity!
