SNAG Gallery & Studio Hop

This SNAG Conference "Gallery Hop" is not to be missed! Buses will take Conference attendees on a wonderful journey to ALCHEMY 9•2•5 in Belmont, Metalwerx School for Jewelry and Community Studio in Waltham, and Mobilia Gallery in Cambridge. This is a fantastic opportunity to see one of the best jewelry schools in the country and 2 galleries featuring spectacular works by the best artists in our field.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Sign up at the SNAG Conference! Stop by Metalwerx's table in the Resource Hallway or during the Education Resource Room.

LOGISTICS: Bus pick-up is on the Columbus Avenue side at the valet entrance of the hotel. we will meet immediately after the conference lectures end on Saturday, May 23. Registered participants can hop on a free bus to be taken to three locations. Three buses will leave the hotel at approximately 3:15 to visit each destination for approximately 35 minutes. At 6:00, all buses will return to the hotel so conference attendees can get ready for the evening activities.

AT ALCHEMY 9•2•5:

Join us at ALCHEMY 9•2•5 for "The Power And The Beauty", a wearable jewelry exhibition, organized to coincide with the Boston SNAG Conference. This exhibition asks the artist and viewer to think about: Who has the power? Who creates the beauty? Or is it the other way around? Can power and beauty coexist? How does one visualize The Power And The Beauty? 52 wearable pieces examining this theme will be on display through June 6. Artists include: Eve Llyndorah, Robly Glover, Andrea Williams, Baiyan Qui, Karin Worden and 24 others. Three award winners will be announced on Saturday at 4:30 at the gallery.

ALCHEMY 9•2•5 is a contemporary jewelry and fine craft gallery in charming Belmont Center, just 8 miles from Boston. AT METALWERX:

Metalwerx's upcoming Open House is taking place during the SNAG Conference in Boston between 3:00 and 6:00 PM. Visitors can watch instructor demos, check out three mini-exhibitions of art jewelry, see our fully-stocked classroom, and hang out with staff, faculty, students, studiomates and our hard-working community of volunteers.

We have local and visiting artists who will be demonstrating their favorite techniques: Pneumatic Hand Engraving: Tira Mitchell, Pulse Arc Welding: Wendy Jo New & David Baird, Forming with the Hydraulic Press: Cynthia Eid, and Synclastic/Anticlastic Forming: Diane Lawton.

There will also be three mini-exhibitions throughout the school that showcase recent work from our friends: EMBELLISH is a 20 piece necklace exhibit with 7 artists showcasing how each of us chooses to adorn the neck. MASTERwerx features a selection of work by our Summer with the Masters instructors. STUDIOwerx includes jewelry and metalwork by our community members.

You don't have to attend the conference to join us at open house, but the Gallery Hop's Metro West Loop bus tour is only available to SNAG conference attendees.

Metalwerx is an innovative school and community studio established in 1998. Our students come from all over the world to study with local and internationally renowned artist-educators. Our mission is to provide individual growth and self-expression, while encouraging support and collaboration within this active and vibrant community. In addition to classrooms, our facility is home to twenty-two full and part-time studiomates, a group of passionate amateurs, bench jewelers, and professionals, who share tips and work on individual projects, utilizing cutting edge tools and equipment.

AT MOBILIA GALLERY:

Don't miss "Journey through Time: Explorations of Artful Adornment & Sculptural Vessels through the Ages", a group invitational including masters in their field such as Michael Berger,Mary Lee Hu, Joyce J. Scott, Christina Smith, Helen Shirk, Martin Spreng and Jose Marin, as well as younger emerging talents such as Arata Fuchi, Yong Joo Kim,Jee Hye Kwon and Russell Larman with their interpretation of historical works from ancient through contemporary times.

Established in 1978, Mobilia Gallery features 20th and 21st century decorative and fine arts, including sculpture, ceramics, paintings, glass, textiles, studio furniture and jewelry with an emphasis on installation. Our gallery provides a schedule of innovative, curated exhibits showcasing American and international artists with lectures, symposiums, traveling exhibitions, and catalogs and books which provide a deeper understanding of the arts and the creative process.
