Gold and Texture Romance: Keum-boo and Reticulation Combined!

Combine two popular and historical techniques in one to create new work, understand metallurgy for new designs. This class is designed to take an in-depth look at combining the Korean technique of Keum-boo with the silver textured peaks and valleys created with reticulation. Learn to make Keum-boo foil, prepare 80/20 reticulation alloy and combine them to make a variety of jewelry pieces. Combine with Argentium fusion, soldering and stone setting to expand fabrication skills. Short cuts in fabrication and soldering will be demonstrated. Power point presentations that address technique and design will be shared.

Paulette Werger is a metalsmith and teacher who works in Lebanon, NH. She sells her work both nationally and internationally and is owner of Metalpeople East, a jewelry and hollow ware studio. She has taught metalsmithing at the University of WI, Montana State University, and at craft schools throughout the country.

 

Materials & Tools

There is a $300 materials fee for this class that is payable to the instructor in class.  The materials kit includes: 

  • 24kt gold foil
  • 80/20 reticulation alloy in two different gauge thicknesses
Students should bring
  • Closed toed shoes - required in the Metalwerx studio
