Etching Round Objects

Etching round objects can be a bit tricky.  In this class students will learn the techniques to successfully etch numbers, words, and artwork onto a cylinder metal form. Using a common piece of copper pipe found at the hardware store, we will transform our pieces into statement beads to be worn vertically or horizontally. Techniques covered include transferring of copy and design onto the round object, preparing the metal to be etched, etching the outside of the metal while keeping the inside of the cylinder intact, cleaning metal after its etched, patina, proper disposal of chemicals, making head pins, wire wrapping bling to embellish, and if time allows, making jump rings. Students can expect to leave with several samples of round etched surfaces.
