Wire Wrapping Techniques

Course Description

About this course

Wire working is a fluid and meditative process. In this one-day workshop, Dan will provide an overview of fundamental patterns and methods for suspending stones, crystals and found objects in metal. Students will learn and practice basic weaving and coiling techniques as well as completing a simple wrapped cabochon project. Dan will show some finished work as well as images of prominent artists making wire wrapped jewelry. Then, students will see demonstrations of  more unique weaves and make samples. Students will also spend time learning how to compose designs that create effective and secure seats for stones while remaining visually stunning.

At the end of the day, students will leave with samples, one finished (or nearly finished) piece, as well as the skills to design and complete future wire-wrap projects at home on their own. Get comfortable weaving and spinning wire and have the confidence to innovate and create their own unique jewelry designs. No need for a torch, soldering or metal fabrication experience; just your two hands and a pair of pliers! All experience levels are welcome.
