Raised and Altered Vessel Forms

Ready to make some magic with the wave of a hammer?! In this workshop led by metalsmith extraordinaire Tim Lazure, students will start off with a flat disc of metal and using varying hammers and steel stakes will explore how "fluid" metal can be. Like clay, metal is malleable and can be pushed and pulled into countless shapes and forms – just not quite as fast as clay!   This intensive 5-day class will begin with a crash course in raising (forming flat sheet into a 3D shape) and planishing (smoothing the forms surface with hammers) metal into a refined volumous vessel. Students will then be shown different chasing and repoussé techniques using pitch, unique hammers, and chasing tools to alter their form and embellish its surface with patterns and textures.
