Metal Clay Earrings in a Day

Silver metal clay is a unique form of silver. It starts out like clay and can be manipulated in a variety of ways. After being fired in a kiln, the end result is a 99.9% pure silver object that's a little smaller than the original form. This one day workshop teaches the basics of working with silver metal clay and students can expect to go home with three new pairs of earrings.

Techniques for working with clay include stamping, cutting, assembling, finishing methods, as well as how to form unique ear wires for a more custom look. Three earrings styles will be demonstrated: post, embedded wire, and French wire.

In addition, come to understand the history of silver metal clay, its working characteristics and necessary tools. Students will also be presented with handouts documenting this information, a bibliography, and a complete list of suppliers.

The class is appropriate for beginner and intermediate students - A beginner can create earrings that employ cut and stamp techniques, while an intermediate student can learn to add embellishments to "kick it up a notch".
