Earring Design and Fabrication

Earrings are double trouble but essential for a jeweler to make and master. This two day workshop will be all about designing and making different kinds of ear baubles. Learn the basics of soldering posts and forming ear wires to crafting hinges for click top hoops. Techniques covered will include but are not limited to finding balance and troubleshooting designs vs fabrication. Beginners and advanced students will benefit from group demonstrations and one on one guidance from the instructor in order to grow their ideas. Students will create samples and finished jewelry depending on interest and time. Make something extraordinary to take home and arm yourself with the ability to craft all types of earrings.

Avery Lucas received her MFA in Jewelry/Metals at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth in 2012. Lucas is currently a studio artist, teacher, production jeweler, and mold maker in Rhode Island. She has taught metals and design at University of Masschusetts Dartmouth and Rhode Island College. Lucas has also lectured and taught workshops at East Carolina University, Rhode Island College, State University of New York - New Paltz, and at the Fuller Craft Museum. In addition to being a Niche Award finalist, her metal work won "Best Of" Contemporary Art Month for a featured exhibition at Equinox Gallery in San Antonio, Texas. Lucas's one of a kind work is sold online and in galleries nationally.

 

Materials & Tools

There is a $35 materials fee for this workshop that is payable upon registration. The materials kit includes copper and brass sheet, sterling silver wire, and various jump rings and findings needed to complete projects. 

Students should bring

Students should bring a sketch book, pencils/pens, a sharpie, any special tools or materials they may want, and any ideas and designs they may have.
