Course Description

About this course

The cuff is a classy and sassy piece of jewelry that can stand alone or be stacked with other pieces. Learning the basics of how to make this wardrobe staple will help progress your jewelry-making endeavors too. Students will learn how to design, size, cut, shape, anneal, and form strips of metal to entwine the wrist. Master the plain cuff first, then let your imagination take over — there are endless ways to customize. Techniques such as hammering, roller printing, stamping, and piercing will be covered in order to create all sorts of design outcomes. This class will be fluid and fast paced in order for students to get the most out of their time. Come make something special for yourself or one of a kind gifts to dazzle your friends. Each student will leave the class with at leas one cuff bracelet and the knowledge to make more!

Meet the Instructor

Avery Lucas

Avery Lucas received her MFA in Jewelry/Metals at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth in 2012. Lucas is currently a studio artist, teacher, production jeweler, and mold maker in Rhode Island. She has taught metals and design at University of Masschusetts Dartmouth and Rhode Island College. Lucas has also lectured and taught workshops at East Carolina University, Rhode Island College, State University of New York - New Paltz, and at the Fuller Craft Museum. In addition to being a Niche Award finalist, her metal work won "Best Of" Contemporary Art Month for a featured exhibition at Equinox Gallery in San Antonio, Texas. Lucas's one of a kind work is sold online and in galleries nationally.

Materials & Tools 

There is a $40 materials fee for this workshop that is payable upon registration. The materials kit includes copper, nugold, and sterling silver sheet to complete samples and finished cuffs. 


Students should bring 

Students should bring a sketch book, pencils/pens, a sharpie, any special tools or materials (silver) they may want, and any ideas they may have.
